What to expect on the day

Front End North is fast approaching so here’s some useful info about what to expect on the day.

Getting to the venue

The Owen Building is in Sheffield city centre and is easily accessible from the train and bus stations, plus there’s parking nearby at Q Park on Charles St. The conference will be in the Pennine Lecture Theatre on level 2. See our venue page for full details.

Registration

Registration will be in the Atrium just outside the Pennine Lecture theatre. Make sure to check in and grab your lanyard. We’ll be opening registration at 9am, with the first speaker starting at 10am, so there’s plenty of time to grab a drink and have a chat. The full schedule is available on our website.

If you’ve made a group booking there should be a QR code for each attendee to check in with. Please pass this email on to your attendees.

Refreshments

Tea and coffee will be available during registration and the morning and afternoon breaks. There is also a cafe a few floors up if you fancy something different (bring your keep cup to get a discount). Water is available from fountains, but you’ll need to bring your own water bottle.

The lunch break is from 1pm - 2:30pm so you’ll have plenty of time to go and explore Sheffield’s many lunch options. See our venue page for some recommendations. There are also Tesco and Sainsbury’s nearby if you want to grab a meal deal. You’re welcome to bring your lunch back into the building and hang out in the Atrium, there’ll always be some organisers and volunteers around. To make sure everyone feels included, especially for those arriving on their own, we'd really appreciate it if any large huddles of people could leave some space for people to join in and introduce themselves.

Captions

Live captions will be available for all talks during the day. They will be displayed on a large TV at the front, or alternatively, you will also be able to view them on your own device.

Quiet room

Conferences can be loud and busy, if you need a bit of a break we have a quiet room available. It’s located in room Norfolk 205, through the doors at the far end of the Atrium. Follow the signs or ask a volunteer or organiser for directions.

The social

Once the talks have finished we’d love it if you joined us for our social at the National Videogame Museum. It’s a short walk away from the conference venue and we’ll be there to show the way. Hang on to your lanyard as you’ll need to show it for access. Once there you’ll be able to try out some of their vast collection of games, enjoy a drink (the first one is on us! Alcoholic and non-alcoholic options will be available), and grab some complimentary food - pizza plus vegan and gluten free alternatives will be available.

Code of conduct

Just a reminder that all attendees, speakers, sponsors and volunteers at the conference and the social are expected to be aware of and follow the code of conduct, this helps us to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

If you have any questions about the day please get in touch with us at admin@frontendnorth.com.

We’re looking forward to seeing you!
